Merton College has opened its Law Essay Competition to encourage Year 12 state school students to consider studying Law at Oxford.
The essay title is: “The rich should be obliged to give to the poor because they don't deserve what they have.”
All submitted essays will be reviewed by an Oxford academic. Within essays we are looking for clarity of structure, argument, and style, and effective use of relevant information and ideas.
The winners will have their essays published on the Merton College website, and will be invited to join us for our Merton Pre-Law Residential. This will take place from Thursday 4 July to Friday 5 July 2019, and will include attendance at our Open Day, academic taster sessions with Law tutors, activities with current Merton Law students, and more. Attendees will be invited to stay overnight at Merton, gaining a first-hand insight into the life of a Merton undergraduate.
The competition is open to all UK Year 12 state school students. Submitted essays should be no more than 750 to 1,000 words in length.
The deadline for entries is 12:00 noon on Wednesday 5 June 2019. Entries should be submitted here: https://www.merton.ox.ac.uk/law-essay-competition-and-pre-law-residential
